Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute To Polaris
Fantastic limited edition Memovox watch. Rare to fin, more in this conditions.
The essential features of the Memovox Polaris, the strong dna, naturally had to be present in this remake: a large 42 mm polished water-resistant steel case, a domed synthetic glass, the black dial, the triple case-back that enabled optimal diffusion of sound below water and water resistance to 200 meters, the emblematic alarm display with its central black disc bearing a luminescent triangle as an adjustment marker, the sweep center second and date aperture at 3, central seconds hand, the internal rotating bezel with diving time, the three large crowns with their instantly recognizable vintage gridwork motif. The crown at 2 o’clock: to wind and adjust the alarm, the one at 3 to adjust the inner rotating dial ring, the last one at 4 o’clock to set the time and allow manual winding. The cas back is engraved with the diving helmet logo.
While the design remains faithful to the original, the movement incorporates the latest technical innovations of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s automatic movements. This watch is powered by a caliber JLC 956, rhodium-plated, 23 jewels, 28’800 alt/h, with suspended gong, an approx 45 hour power reserve, a variable-inertia balance beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, an oscillating weight equipped with ceramic ball bearings and a total of 268 parts. With a total weight of 88 grammes, the new model is only 3 grammes heavier than the original.
Under the cambered synthetic glass, this 1968 re-edition, bears an all matt black dial, with painted luminous triangular and Arabic 12, 6, 9, minute division, concentric revolving alarm disc with luminous arrow marker for the alarm indication, luminous hands, sweep center second, aperture for the date at 3, outer bi-directional rotating gloss black ring with silvered 15-minute Arabic numerals, 5-minute baton, and minute dot divisions, for decompression time. The luminescent material is made to have an older/patina look, so to duplicate the original version as close as possible, except for the hands and arabic 12,9,6 hours indexes that are emitting a green light.
Tested 1000 hours, like every Master Compressor line, the present watch is numbered 229 of a limited edition of 768 pieces. Case, dial and movement are signed. The watch comes with a Calfskin strap with criss-cross pattern and stainless steel buckle. The watch is delivered with a retro looking JLC box – the same design used in the original series, all papers and certificates, as well as an additional spare crystal.
